Guide to Nissaki, Corfu

Walking down to Nissaki beachWhere exactly is Nissaki, Corfu

Travelling towards the North - East coast of Corfu, one can come across the village of Nissaki winding around the foothill of mountain Pantokrator. It abstains about 25 km from the centre of Corfu town but the trip there, is really enjoyable since the scenery is quite picturesque!

About Nissaki, Corfu

The name 'Nissaki' means 'small island' in Greek, and according to tradition it was the name of a little island that was joined to the mainland when all the rubblework from an old nearby quarry pilled up across, forming a kind of bridge between the two pieces of land.

Who is best for

It is a village full of olive trees which makes it a popular destination for those who love nature. Its great variety of modern facilities though, contributes to the fact that it is a favourite for those who prefer a quiet resort to spend their holidays. Tourists can choose where to stay since accommodation facilities vary from self-catering appartments and studios to private villas with pools and the well known 'Nissaki Beach Hotel', all of which are perfectly scattered among the olive groves.

Where to eat

Driving or strolling along the main road of the village, you meet a few tavernas as well as souvenir

shops and mini markets where you can buy what's necessary during your stay.

You can sample Greek specialties, traditional dishes and fresh seafood in any of the tavernas you choose to visit both for the delicious cuisine and the spectacular view they offer!

Where to swim

The village is also famous for its pebbly beaches. Krouzeri is the biggest one but Kaminaki and the small Nissaki beach are also quite preferable by the visitors during the hot summer months. The sunbeds and the umbrellas provide you with comfort for as long as you wish to enjoy a day at the beach and the crystal waters offer you the chance to cool from the hot rays of the sun.

What to do

If you feel active and adventurous you can try watersports or even hire a boat to explore the surrounding bays.

Hiking is also a wonderful way to spend your time and find out more about the Greek countryside; you will absolutely love the scenery which is full of olive trees and wild flowers.

How to entertain yourself

At night, you can have a great time at the small bars where you can enjoy your drink and listen to the latest hits or even older pieces of music, ranging from foreign to Greek songs. There are places that cater for every taste.

However, there are no night clubs with loud music in the area. Kalami, Barbati and Ipsos offer this kind of entertainment and they are easily accessible by car or taxi, since they are close to Nissaki.

Therefore, staying indoors is not recommended if you want to spend your holidays pleasurably!
